Days of Our Lives’ Shocking Murder Twist Just Unveiled a ‘New’… Sami?!

Sometimes Days of Our Lives zigs when we’re sure it’s about to zag, and that’s just what happened big time when the show revealed that Connie of all people, murdered Li. It’s been ages since his killing and about all we’ve known about it is that Gabi did not do it, despite her prison stint.

But in the months in between, it turns out that Connie moved into Li’s former apartment, seems to be hallucinating and cuddling up to him, and fully blames Gabi and Melinda for his death, despite being the one that plunged a knife into his back. In other words, Connie’s bat[bleep] crazy.

And that’s why Hallucination Li told Connie he never called her back after that first date!

Days' Connie is about to plunge a knife into Li's back in his apartment

When Soaps.com spoke with Julie Dove a little while back, she talked about how she went from a Days of Our Lives superfan to Salemite busybody Connie.

Since those first beginnings, Connie’s popped up a few more times to try wooing Li and blame Melinda for his death. But we guess that was all just smoke and mirrors since, as we theorized last week, Connie is the one who actually killed him!

So it turns out that Connie’s a whole lot more complicated than we thought! That’s not a huge surprise since her first appearance involved tossing a drink in Chad’s cheating face (years ago).

Then she popped up as a client of Sloan’s who was a little too sympathetic to her attorney’s psychotic brother and finally showed up as a true crime obsessed fan of Li’s who was way too titillated by the idea that he was an attempted murderer.

In other words: We really should have seen this coming! Dove spoke recently with Soaphub about this latest twist to her character and who she drew inspiration from.

Her first comparison, of course, is to Annie Wilkes, Kathy Bates’ obsessed, dangerous fan in the classic Stephen King film, Misery.

Dove went back to rewatch the film and get inspiration as soon as she saw Connie was taking a murderous turn. “Annie Wilkes is such an interesting, layered character,” Dove notes, “and I think Connie has many layers.”

But she also grounded Connie in a character much closer to Salem — though it may not be one folks would expect!

“I also took inspiration from Alison Sweeney’s portrayal of Sami Brady in that she knows what she wants,” the actress explains. “She believes what she wants is completely justified. Sami always has a plan, and she will do anything it takes to get her desired result!”

Days mashup - Connie, Sami, looking towards each other

That may seem a bit extreme, but then so was Sami. She has shot a few folks in her life, castrated her rapist, kidnapped a baby or two, drugged and raped Austin and… well, you get the point. Some of her more violent acts may have been justified, but let’s face it; not all were!

In the end, Dove isn’t wrong that Sami would do anything to get what she wants! So yeah, we could see Connie picking up where Sami left off. Though we can’t ignore the fact that she’s slightly more unbalanced…

Now, Connie seems intent on making everyone responsible for Li’s death pay — though that doesn’t include her, of course. In other words, as Dove teases to Soaphub, “There’s more to come. More questions and more answers!”
