GH’s Adam J. Harrington Explains What Happened to His Eye

The introduction of HDTV meant that viewers now get to see every little detail of the movies and television shows they’re watching, which naturally meant some adjustments on the production side regarding sets, wardrobe, and makeup.

But because General Hospital is broadcast in high-definition, a lot of viewers noticed in the June 11 episode that something was up with Adam J. Harrington’s eye during John’s scenes with Sam!

Because the scene where Sam and Spinelli teamed up to swipe John’s FBI identification took place at the Metro Court pool, one fan posted to Twitter/X to wonder if the water was dirty, and that was what caused Harrington’s eye to appear all bloodshot and red. However, that was actually not the case.

“A blood vessel in my eye burst the night before we shot,” Harrington revealed before going on to defend the GH production crew. “[The] pool is very clean. GH makes sure it’s safe for the cast.”

Given that the section of pool actually shown on screen is very small, the only thing the actors really have to worry about is being careful with how shallow it is. The water is kept clean and safe for everyone to swim in during scenes.

When another fan admitted that as entertaining as the scene was, they were distracted by his red eye, Harrington admitted he felt the same! “Me too!” he laughed. “The talented crew did a great job shooting around it as much as they could. Even how they lit me.”

Thankfully, subconjunctival hemorrhages aren’t anything serious and usually clear up in a week or two. So while you might notice Harrington’s eye is a little bit red for the next handful of episodes, it’s no big deal. And it’s also nice to know that the Metro Court pool is kept clean — because otherwise, Carly would definitely have something to say about that!
