General Hospital’s Eva LaRue Struggles With Natalia Being ‘So Defensive of Her Bigotry’

Sometimes stars take on roles that can at times be very difficult to play, which is the case for General Hospital’s Eva LaRue.

It’s no secret that Natalia doesn’t approve of her daughter Blaze’s relationship with Kristina and during her appearance on State of Mind, host and fellow castmate Maurice Benard (Sonny) acknowledged, “It’s tough playing your character,” to which LaRue quickly interjected, “She couldn’t be any more different than me, that’s for sure.”

After they touched base on Natalia and Sonny’s relationship, and how he has tried to open her eyes to what’s real, the love between Blaze and Kristina, LaRue talked about how Natalia has been so defensive that it’s hard for her, the actress.

“She’s so defensive of her bigotry, which is tough,” she stated, especially since she grew up the exact opposite. “We all work in an industry where some of the most creative, far more creative than I could ever be, are all gay.

They think outside the box in a way I could never possibly. They’re beautiful individuals and souls and I’ve always thought that so to play this character and be so defensive of it…”

And if you watched the June 19 episode, viewers witnessed a more vulnerable side to Natalia when Sonny asked how she was really feeling about Blaze and Kristina’s relationship. “I’m worried. Not because I think it’s wrong, I don’t,” she stated. “I’m evolving. I just have a hard time seeing that that kind of love ends in real happiness,” to which Sonny pointed out, growing up in Puerto Rico, “Love is love is not a motto you grew up with.”
