Disrespecting Vs. Protecting

When Craig sat down with on-screen dad Maurice Benard for a live podcast taping at this year’s GH Fan Club Weekend and the two delved into their recent scenes and Morgan’s bipolar storyline, the conversation prompted Benard to tell a story he admitted could get him in trouble.

“I was doing a scene with an actress and Bryan, and I didn’t have many lines, she didn’t have many lines… he had a sh– load, like monologues,” Benard began. “He does the scenes, and after the scenes, the way they were speaking to him… just wasn’t cool.”

Craig quipped he was getting afraid for the person who didn’t treat him well when he noticed Benard’s reaction. “Better be nicer to me,” he joked, pointing toward his TV dad.

Benard channeled his inner Sonny Corinthos when he continued, “If you’re going to disrespect an actor in front of me, we’re going to have a problem.”

The actor went on to recall the way the unnamed person continued disrespecting Craig, and he offered him words of encouragement.

“Do what you do, you’re fantastic, just kick ass in this one,” he told Craig before he filmed his next scenes. Benard (who recently teased his character’s upcoming storyline) remembered the way Craig nailed the scenes, but when he was told he needed to do it again, that was when Benard jumped into action.

“Now, there’s no point in me having to tell you what I said… it wasn’t pretty, and I was angry as hell,” he said, admitting he almost left the set until Craig reeled him back in.

“I got a string of apologies after that,” Craig revealed. “You protect all the actors, you really do,” he told Benard before explaining how vulnerable acting can be. “You’re a protector of that, and I appreciate that.”
