Seasoned Sister Wives fans know that Meri Brown and her former sister wife Janelle never really saw eye to eye. Meri was Kody Brown’s first wife and Janelle was his second, so there was bound to be some tension.
By now, most Sister Wives viewers know that Janelle Brown was originally married to Meri’s brother Adam. They split up and Janelle became Kody Brown’s second wife. But neither woman ever publicly said much about the awkward situation.

Meri Brown Opens Up About Her History With Janelle
For years, Sister Wives fans have been dying to know more about Meri and Janelle’s feelings about their past together. They didn’t get along when they shared a husband. But did Janelle’s first marriage to Meri’s brother have anything to do with it?
“I think it really weirds a lot of people out and the community’s not that small,” Meri shared on the Miss Understood Podcast. “So it’s kind of weird that that all happened that way.”
Adam and Janelle Barber married in 1988 and didn’t have any children. They divorced and Janelle went on to marry Kody Brown in 1993. They welcomed their first son Logan in 1994.
“It took a minute for me to get my head wrapped around it,” Meri continued. “The whole thing was interesting. There was emotions. Let’s just say, there was emotions.”
However, the TLC star went on to say she believed she worked through the difficult feelings for the sake of the family.
Where Do The Former Sister Wives Stand Today?
Meri Brown will be part of Sister Wives Season 19 when it premieres this fall. However, she’s not exactly on the best of terms with her former family members. They are decent to one another, but that’s as far as it goes.

“When I see them, we have cordial conversations, but I don’t seek them out to have a relationship,” Meri added. “I feel like I had a lot of time to be able to do that. In the past over a year since I’ve separated myself, Kody and I have separated and we’re done, I have a lot of things that I’m working on in myself. And I think it’s really, really important to be surrounded by the people that really encourage that.”
