Sister Wives: “Mean Girls!”: Times Meri, Janelle, Christine & Robyn Brown Went Super Low

Sister Wives’Meri Brown, Janelle Brown, Christine Brown, and Robyn Brown have said harsh things to each other over the years. When Sister Wives premiered in 2010, fans were introduced to Kody Brown and his three wives, Meri, Janelle, and Christine.

Shortly afterward, the family expanded with the addition of Robyn, and despite the excitement that preceded her arrival, it also proved to be the catalyst for unraveling the polygamous family. However, despite Kody’s many faults for mishandling his family affairs, the sister wives, Meri, Janelle, Christine, and Robyn, never really got along with each other.

Meri’s position as the first wife meant she had to anchor the other wives as they entered the family. While Meri, Janelle, and Christine looked to have lived in harmony for several years, the addition of Robyn brought the cracks in the family that gradually worsened to the surface.

By the time Sister Wives season 18 finale aired in November 2023, only Robyn remained with Kody, with the other wives Meri, Christine, and Janelle all leaving the family. However, despite their combined dislike for Kody, the sister wives themselves haven’t been united.

Meri & Janelle Brown Clashed Over Housework

Before becoming one of Kody’s wives, Janelle and Meri were sisters-in-law, and Janelle was married to Meri’s brother, Adam Barber. However, after her divorce from Adam, Janelle became excellent friends with Meri and Kody, and what seemingly started off as just a friendship developed into romance.

In 1993, Janelle became Kody’s second wife and soon moved in with the pair at their Wyoming home. However, transitioning from just a family friend to Meri’s sister wife was not as smooth as Janelle expected, and the two soon discovered they weren’t as fond of each other as they might’ve thought (via Cheatsheet).

Janelle was ostracized from the family and started feeling more like a guest than a wife in the home. Janelle and Meri clashed over housework, such as cooking or laundry, as Meri was overly critical of anything Janelle did. Meri and Janelle’s frosty relationship was enhanced because they didn’t know how to handle the family dynamics of their polygamous marriage.

Kody and Meri had been married longer, and gestures like cuddling up with Meri during a family movie night left Janelle feeling abandoned. Also, Meri’s aggressive and opinionated comments didn’t help the tense nature of their relationship.

Christine Didn’t Invite Meri To Her Wedding With David Woolley

When Christine announced her marriage to new beau David Wooley, the occasion was expected to be a reunion gathering for some of the wives. While the chances of Kody and Robyn being invited to the ceremony were nonexistent due to their estranged relationship with Christine, it was even more surprising when Meri also didn’t get an invitation.

For most of Christine’s marriage to Kody, she and Meri had a cordial relationship, and they hardly had any great disagreements. However, during a reunion special, Christine hinted that she ended her friendship with Meri on her terms because it wasn’t safe for her anymore.

Without giving any specific details, Christine explained she didn’t trust Meri anymore. Still, while the rest of the Sister Wives fanbase might’ve been shocked Meri wasn’t invited to Christine’s marriage, Meri herself couldn’t have cared less about being snubbed (via The US Sun).

According to the publication, Meri wasn’t interested in attending Christine’s wedding ceremony to David because they had a falling out, and the pair had been distant since Christine left the family’s house and moved to Utah. Meri and Christine were reportedly never close as sister wives, and there was no chance they could’ve been friends.

Robyn Talked About The Other Wives “Stretch Marks” & “Weight Gain”

Kody’s decision to marry Robyn as his fourth wife proved to be the catalyst for his unraveling polygamous family. Kody’s preference for Robyn over Meri, Janelle, and Christine was evident despite his denials. Kody was regularly criticized by his other wives and Sister Wives fans for how poorly he handled the family.

However, as Kody’s relationship with Christine and Janelle deteriorated, Robyn also had her say on some claims that Kody favored her over her sister wives. During her interview with Tell-All host Sukanya Krishnan, Robyn defended Kody, describing him as a loving husband and person.

Meanwhile, instead of believing that Kody neglected his other wives, Robyn explained that Kody was rejected “affection-wise” by the wives. Robny noted that despite the other wives’ stretch marks and weight gain, which indicated they were stagnant in the relationship, or money problems and arguments, Kody still loved each of Meri, Janelle, and Christine. Robyn explained she didn’t know how to sympathize with the wives because relationships require hard work. Robyn’s comments continued her long stint of clashing with Sister Wives‘ fans, who accused her of being misogynistic.

Meri Insulted Janelle Over Her Makeup

The early stages of Janelle’s marriage to Kody were rough, especially her integration into the family. Janelle and Mari didn’t get along as they struggled to accommodate the changes of having a sister wife and acclimatize to each other’s personality.

However, their relationship worsened when Janelle became pregnant with Logan Brown. Pregnancy hormones and the physical challenges of carrying a baby left Janelle feeling vulnerable, and she also started taking Meri’s cold and aggressive remarks more personally than previously. Kody had left home for a new job logging on a mountain and was taking Meri with him.

Janelle took the news badly that she would be the only one left at home again. Meri then took the opportunity to be highly critical of Janelle. Janelle had experimented with her makeup and was crying after learning she wouldn’t be leaving with Kody when Meri decided to make crude remarks about her makeup. Meri’s remarks led Janelle to the verge of a complete nervous breakdown, and she had to call Kody for reassurance that he still loved her. Kody’s comments that he still loved Janelle offered the Sister Wives star the relief she needed.
