Daniel sat by Paul’s bedside for days, barely speaking, lost in grief. He had hoped bringing Lucy, Paul’s granddaughter, might spark a miracle, but Paul remained still, trapped in a fog of unconsciousness. Daniel’s hope began to fade.

The doctors said the shock of Heather’s murder had triggered Paul’s collapse, but Daniel knew there was more to it.

Paul had always been a man of action, determined to bring Heather’s killer to justice. Now, it was Daniel’s turn to protect their family, but he wasn’t sure he was ready for it.

Fear gnawed at Daniel ever since Heather’s murder. He couldn’t shake the feeling that the killer wasn’t done yet. Paul, even in his weakened state, posed a threat to them.

The people responsible for Heather’s death wouldn’t hesitate to silence Paul if they thought he was getting too close to the truth.

Genoa City had always been a place of secrets, where shadows hid dangerous enemies. Daniel needed to return to Genoa to handle Heather’s funeral, but leaving Paul in the hospital, vulnerable, felt wrong.

What if something happened while he was gone?

Before leaving, Daniel arranged for extra security at Paul’s hospital room, hoping it would be enough. The next morning, he made the difficult decision to return to Genoa City.

Heather’s funeral arrangements couldn’t wait any longer. As much as he hated leaving Paul, Heather deserved a proper farewell.

Lucy clung to his hand as they boarded the plane. She hadn’t spoken much since Heather’s death, but Daniel could see the questions in her eyes.

Why had this happened? Why wasn’t her mother coming back? Why wasn’t her grandfather waking up? Daniel wished he had answers.

Back in Genoa, the weight of responsibility grew heavier with each passing hour. As Daniel oversaw the final preparations for Heather’s funeral, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something terrible was still lurking.

Heather’s killer hadn’t been caught, and Paul’s condition wasn’t improving. The funeral was somber, attended by friends and family who had loved Heather.

Daniel stood at the front, Lucy by his side. Beneath the sorrow, an undercurrent of fear ran through the mourners. People were scared of what Heather’s death meant—and who might be next.

As the service ended, Daniel’s thoughts turned back to Paul. He couldn’t stay in Genoa for long. Paul needed protection, but was it even possible? Could Daniel keep him safe from those who had already taken so much?

Days passed, and Paul remained unconscious. Daniel made frequent trips between Genoa and the hospital, torn between honoring Heather’s memory and protecting Paul’s uncertain future. Late one night, as Lucy slept beside him in Paul’s hospital room, Daniel’s phone buzzed. It was a message from one of the security guards: Suspicious activity. Unidentified person seen near hospital entrance.

Daniel’s heart raced. Had they come for Paul? He jumped up, eyes darting toward the door. He wouldn’t let anything happen to Paul—not while there was still a chance for justice.
