Daytime Emmy Awards: Michelle Stafford And Courtney Hope Take Home The Gold – Dick Van Dyke Makes History
The Young And The Restless (Y&R) scoop reveals Michelle Stafford and Courtney Hope have swept the best actress categories at the Daytime Emmy Awards.
Also, Days Of Our Lives’ (DOOL) Dick Van Dyke made history. Plus, Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki Newman) and Edward J. Scott received a lifetime achievement award. And The Bold And The Beautiful’s (B&B) Thorsten Kaye (Ridge Forrester) took home his second Emmy in a row as Outstanding Lead Actor.
As for General Hospital (GH), the sudser won Outstanding Directing Team, Outstanding Writing Team and Outstanding Daytime Drama Series. Plus, Robert Gossett, who portrays Marshall Ashford, won his second consecutive Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor.
Daytime Emmy Awards – Thomas Scott Knew She Was Home
Dick Van Dyke took home the Outstanding Guest Performance Award, making him the oldest Daytime Emmy Award recipient in history. The 98-year-old-actor portrayed Timothy Robicheaux, a mystery man on DOOL.
Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Melody Thomas Scott (which she shared with her husband, B&B Supervising Producer Edward J. Scott) was grateful to the late Bill Bell and Lee Phillip Bell. She also thanked her leading man Eric Braeden (Victor Newman) and onscreen kids Amelia Heinle (Victoria Newman) and Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow).
“Growing up, this Hollywood kid was family challenged,” Thomas Scott said. “When I was cast up on Y&R 45 years ago, I walked on the stage…I knew I was home, with the family that had been waiting for me, all along.”

An over-the-moon Courtney Hope, who portrays Sally Spectra on Y&R, won Outstanding Supporting Actress. She thanked her cast mates and her family, in particular her older brother Danny, who reminded her she’s a fighter. And she dedicated her award to anyone who’s ever lost a child. “Thank you so much, I am inspired by you all.”
Finally, in what could be called the biggest surprise of the night, Michelle Stafford took home her third Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress. But first, she acknowledged a fellow nominee, GH’s Finola Hughes (Anna Devane). “You are the best actress in this room and you are the greatest friend,” Stafford told her from the stage.
The actress also joked around about how Y&R Executive Producer and Head Writer Josh Griffith put up with her crying in his office. “I want to share this with all of you, the cast and the crew,” Stafford continued. “Thank you Josh, I love you so much. I am grateful to be an actor, it is the greatest gig in the sky.”
